I get a lot of beauty products in the mail. Some I hate, some I like, most fall into the “ok” department. Then there are the rare few that make it on my re-purchase list. And one that I did NOT expect to make that list is the new Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation.
The last time I bought a drugstore foundation or powder was probably back in my Jr. High days. I’ve been using Jane Iredale loose mineral powder during the day and for nights out, my go-to has long been Bobbi Brown foundation. I dabbled with a few BB Creams and CC creams for awhile too. But nothing ever really wow’ed me.
Until this Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation that is. And you can get it anywhere. For like, $16
Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation Review
Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation just came out in January; I was sent a sample for review (along with a few other goodies) and was really, really surprised at how good it was! And this was my first encounter with a cushion foundation. In fact, I didn’t even really know what it was. In case you don’t either, here’s the gist…
What is Cushion Foundation?
Remember the whole BB Cream, CC Cream, DD Cream thing? Well, thank God we never got into YY Creams, because that craze was kind of annoying. Instead, we got cushion foundation which, unsurprisingly, is another beauty trend from South Korea. (It’s so hot, in fact, cushion foundation sales reportedly make up 40% of the foundation market).
Cushion foundation is basically a BB cream in a compact. It’s light and filled with skincare benefits and is housed in a sponge that contains the formula. Simply dip your Beauty Blender on the sponge to soak up the formula–or use the applicator that comes with your compact–and apply.
Why We Love Cushion Foundation
Need to travel? Take a compact. Headed to the gym? Take a compact. The fact that you can just toss a cushion foundation compact into your bag and take it pretty much anywhere is one of its best qualities. It’s convenient as hell and a one-stop makeup solution. Which, when you’re a busy mom or in a pinch, is everything.
In case you’re wondering, this stuff doesn’t dry out. The compacts are air tight, which means your formula will last and won’t become a bacteria breeding ground.
Maybelleine Dream Cushion Foundation Review
So now that you know all about cushion foundation, how does the Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation stand up? The formula is quick and easy to apply, buildable, goes on smooth and is cheap as hell. My favorite part, however, is the finish: even though it’s in a liquidish form, you don’t need any powder after applying. You can just swipe this stuff on and go and don’t need to apply anything else for it to “set”.
Typically, even after applying BB Creams/CC Creams or my foundation, I feel like my skin needs a little something….namely, powder. But not with Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation; it leaves a finish with a slight glow that doesn’t need to be toned down with powder. Which means it takes about 30 seconds for me to do my face makeup. And that, my friends, is a godsend.
Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation Review Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a new everyday BB Cream/Foundation, definitely give Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation a try. The coverage is lighter than my evening foundation, but gives much better coverage than a tinted moisturizer. It’s buildable, so you can apply as much as you want and it has much more coverage than a lot of the other cushion foundations on the market. It’s just $16, so it’s totally a steal, and it comes with an applicator or you can use your own, like a Beauty Blender. Simply wet it a bit before using and then apply your foundation.
I’m currently using Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation in 30 Warm Nude as part of my everyday makeup routine. It’s quicker than what I was using before and I don’t have to add another step with powder. I really like the finish and it’s long-lasting as well.
Have you tried Maybelleine Dream Cushion Foundation or other cushion foundations? What do you think?
